רקע אקדמי:

מחקריו של ד"ר ולדמן עוסקים בהיסטוריה חברתית ותרבותית של מזרח אירופה ורוסיה. לאחר השלמת הדוקטורט היה עמית פוסט-דוקטורט באוניברסיטת חיפה, באוניברסיטת פנסילבניה ובאוניברסיטת תל-אביב. ספרו "הגימנזיסטים: חינוך, אקטיביזם ומקורות האינטליגנציה היהודית באימפריה הרוסית" זכה בפרט שז"ר לחקר תולדות ישראל לשנת 2023. מאמרים פרי עטו ראו אור בכתבי עת מובילים בארץ ובעולם. 

מחקרו של ד"ר ולדמן "יהודי ברית המועצות אחרי סטלין: בין מציאות קונקרטית לפרשנות עולמית" עוסק בתולדות יהודי ברית המועצות לאחר 1953, תוך התמקדות בפרשנויות השונות שניתנו למציאות היהודית-סובייטית בתוך בריה"מ, בישראל ובצפון אמריקה.
